One thing that we've found great success with at both of the elementary buildings is "Tech Buddies." Fourth and/or fifth grade students are trained in a specific area or tech tool. Then, they are assigned to a younger student in the primary grades. The older kids teach and assist their buddies with whatever instructional project they are working on.
For example, the first graders are working on writing a digital "How To" book. The fifth grade buddies have helped them insert images, create colored backgrounds, and even with effects. Our Early Childhood kids play games on the tablets as our fifth graders work one-on-one with them. We've even had older students introduce the Chromebook to our Kindergartners (who work with Tablets). The younger AND older kids have been incredible. The fifth graders take on a sense of pride and ownership and the younger students are able to form valuable relationships. This kind of cross grade level collaboration is amazing and has truly transformed 21st Century learning in the classrooms of Bloomingdale School District 13.
