We use google hangouts often to connect with others beyond our classroom walls! Last week, our first graders collaborated with another first grade class in roselle using Google Hangouts! this time was different because each individual student was able to connect with their own buddy to chat based on a story that both classes read.
students asked and answered questions with their buddies--about each other and about the shared text! the first graders blew the teachers away with their ability to communicate! what a powerful learning experience for everyone involved! a special thanks to our tech department and the roselle staff and students for making all of this work! ROCK ON!

This year, students and staff have started to use the green screen to enhance learning! Finding a green screen that adhered to school fire code laws wasn't easy, so we decided to paint a wall! all it took was some neon green paint and went to town!
We use the green screen for our video announcements. Our 5th grade news anchors have reported in the middle of the ocean, in the grand canyon and in santa's mailroom. How fun is that? our 5th Graders are working on a civil war battle project right now. they are writing and producing scripts/news broadcasts. recording in front of the green screen allows for their learning to be exciting and engaging as they report straight from the battlegrounds! the 4th grade argumentative videos on school uniforms are definitely more persuasive when the student is speaking with images in the background that help to prove their point. additionally, 1st grade reports on the rainforest with real images behind them really helps learning come alive! if your students haven't used a green screen, have them try it! THE YOUTUBE AUDIO LIBRARY is an incredible resource for our students! Mrs. Peggy schmuldt (holler) found this great music collection. our students are often creating videos, podcasts, or other media forms that include music tracks or sound effects. usually, the free licensed music available within the creation program is limited. However, with the youtube audio library, students are given a mega assortment of music to utilize in their projects. Kids just download the track to their drive and then upload wherever they're working!
You can sort by genre, mood, instrument, duration and attribution. This way, our kids can make purposeful choices that are safe and legal to support and enhance their learning. The sound effect library is impressive, too! YOUTUBE AUDIO LIBRARY SAVES THE DAY-- CHECK IT OUT IF YOU HAVEN't ALREADY! |
